About Me

My name is Sara van Gaalen (they/she) and I am a queer artist working and playing in the performance world. I grew up playing piano, singing in many choirs, and I danced competitively for 10 years at Rise 21 Dance Company (FKA Encore Dance Academy).  Currently, I am studying Theatre & Performance at Simon Fraser University's School for the Contemporary Arts. Favourite credits include Write White (Sara & Carter 2024), New Beginnings (Environments 1 2024), Ouroboros (CoLab 2023), Ultra Violets (Alexandra Caprara 2023), Soft Tongues (Jami Reimer 2023), Over and Over (Tamlin Vetter 2023), and Youthless: It's A Bit Grimm (Place des Arts 2021). I like to say that I am a maker of sh*t and a friend of the fairies. If I had to have an art motto it would be: Art is love, art is everything, everything is love. What excites me in creation in more organic topics, like frogs or plants, or social justice topics, especially feminism or queer theory. My spirit gives me the drive, and audacity, to try anything, but I love devising most of all.
