24h: PROUD

PROUD features Angelika Sloan (Max Mclarnon) and Indigo Wear (Sara van Gaalen) in a piece that remembers the history of queer music, tells tales about queer youth in the area, and reimagines the feeling of an instant connection with someone. PROUD is about recognizing queer joy and the beauty it creates.

PROUD was created by combining a musical theatre lover and a contemporary performance art lover who have been friends for all of their university experience. Max was my first friend here at the SCA so it only felt fitting for his last performance here to work together. Initial ideas came up with a want from me to do a durational movement and a want from Max to do something that celebrated queer music. This sprung out ideas of drag and persona and club life. Everything ended up coming down to the end as a celebration of queer joy. I created the sound score and Max looked on Queering the Map to create our projection. Our idea was to create a piece full of joy and fun that embraced both of our loves and both of our identities.
